Well, it's that time of year again - the 16th Basingstoke Kite Festival is approaching anbd we need to let people know what is going on!!

Last year was a great success - even though the wind was not as strong or consistent as we had hoped (for the second year running!!). The rain did however hold off and everyone kept dry!!

So, we would like to repeat our special Thank You to our Guests who provided some fantastic displays despite the difficult wind conditions. Also, of course, to our Sponsors, without whom we would not be able to hold the Festival (please visit their websites!)

2008 looks like another good year for the Festival.

Please feel free to bring your kites along and add to the spectacle of colour we see every year. Whether your kite be purchased, or hand made. Built from fabric or a bin bag. All are welcome to take part.

This year, the theme for our Design-a-Kite competition is 'Jungle'. Both Children and Adults alike are invited to enter. The winners of the Childrens Kite competitions will have their designs made into a kite which will be presented to them on the Sunday of the Festival. An entry form will be placed on the site as soon as it becomes available.

We will hold our Raffle and the proceeds will be donated to the Mayors nominated Charity.

Local, National and International Kite Flyers will be attending the event. As our invitation is accepted by the fliers, we will put their names here .

There will again be Rokkaku Fighter Kite Competitions (always fun and likely to produce a BIG tangle of kite lines in the arena!!).

An 'Altitude Competition' will take place on both days. In this event flyers launch their kites and let out as much line as they can in a set amount of time. Once the time has elapsed, no more line is let out and the kites are allowed to rise to their normal flying angle. A judgement is made by several judges around the field of which kite is flying the highest and the flyer of that kite is the winner.

So, as we like to say -

'Come on, let's paint the sky with colour'.
